Welcome to 2017 and a happy New Year to all! It is that time of year when so many people decide it’s time to set THE resolution. Unfortunately very few people actually fulfill the resolutions and in fact many times these same people even feel worse after they made a resolution. Why is that? Well, the cycle is that we set a resolution and have the best intentions to fulfill it. Unfortunately, people jump into it with gusto at the beginning of the year and then as the weeks go by they start to fade into old patterns and they are back to square one. Not only are they back to square one but now they have negative emotional anchors such as guilt and shame and frustration over the fact that they didn’t fulfill their New Year’s resolution in the first place. This now starts a pattern of personal distrust. One starts to loose trust on one’s ability to follow through with goals that seem important.
The UN-RESOLUTION TIME
This pattern can actually build multiple levels are personal resentment and I don’t know about you but I like to avoid pain and personal resolution failure is a bit painful on many levels. So my recommendation especially after reading the article by Tony Robbins is that you next your resolution this year. Rather than making a resolution and falling into the old habit of not fulfilling it how about setting up an action strategy. Not a resolution and action because when you have action then you can start focusing on the outcome rather than the process. For example if you want to lose 30 pounds rather than saying at least 30 pounds you say I went to the gym everyday. Rather thing almost 20 pounds you say I’m not in the bread anymore. Rather say I’m going to eat healthier you say I’m nothing to drink soda anymore. These are action oriented decisions that make lasting change and create new habits.
